Creativity and Spirituality

This whole weekend I was thinking on this theme...and how to me, they seem to intertwine...I feel the most "spiritual" while being "creative" and vice versa...why? I am not sure, but I suspect that creativity is the act of giving birth to something and that creation comes from our souls...last night was the New Moon and what did I do that was especially creative? I went to bed early and slept until this morning...sometimes our bodies just need that and I did after having a very busy weekend spent with school, birthday parties, children, and staying up way too late....but, I am very mindful of the moon and phases and its connections to our daily lives and rythmns...New Moons are good for drawing inward, hibernation, death and rebirth, the moon will start to wax again...last night I hibernated...today, it is back to the very comfortable ritual of everyday living..which is also spiritual and ......creative....

A writing on creativity and spirituality:

"The spiritual journey is a creative journey. It’s about birth. It calls us
past the boundaries of convention. It tests our willingness to see life in
a new way and our courage to express it: for new ways of viewing life in
the face of what is commonly accepted. We become new, and in this ongoing
birthing, we bring new forms to life as well. Life itself has become a
creative act, full of vitality and richness and passion."

-Anne Hillman, Dancing Animal Woman: A Celebration of Life

and one I felt especially perfect for the New Moon:

"For each of us as women, there is a dark place within, where hidden and
growing our true spirit rises, "beautiful/and tough as chestnut/stanchions
against (y)our nightmare of weakness/" and of impotence. These places of
possibility within ourselves are dark because they are ancient and hidden;
they have survived and grown strong through that darkness. Within these
deep places, each of us holds an incredible reserve of creativity and
power, of unexamined and unrecorded emotion and feeling. The woman's place
of power within each of us is neither white nor surface; it is dark, it is
ancient, and it is deep."

  1. I agree. I tend to feel very spiritual while being creative. Also, I find the phases of the moon intriguing...I feel more aware when the moon is full, like there is some kind of connection to me and other cosmic forces. It's like I have a different perception of the world underneath a full moon. I am working on developing a connection to myself...being aware of feelings, thoughts and certain insights that my mind and body create. Its seems like you are very in-tune with yourself...

  2. I wish I could be more in tune with myself but it is a journey I am planning on being on for the rest of my life...this is just one more way of getting in touch with myself...
