MLK and Creativity/Obama and the Arts

In honor of MLK, I had to put two inspiring quotes up that he said...I am a big fan of quotes and have them everywhere from the front of my fridge, to my school notebooks, to my blogs...

"Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness." Martin Luther King, Jr.

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." Martin Luther King, Jr.

OBAMA-

Last night, I was listening to MPR on the radio and they were talking about how Obama wants to open up the white house to many different artists..poets (he is a fan of poetry), musicians, and the like...not only that, he seems to be very excited about Jazz...yea! I am excited to see what will happen in our nation as he may help bring more focus to the Arts in our society...

And here is one more thought on creativity-

Common definition from Webster's - Creativity is marked by the ability or power to createto bring into existence, to invest with a new form, to produce through imaginative skill, to make or bring into existence something new

  1. Chaundra, I am all about your blog on creativity. If you're interested in the research side of things (conducted mostly in psychology and education), I can sling some resources your way.

The Daily Show mercilessly mocked poets yesterday in their inauguration special. They showed the crowd leaving as Elizabeth Alexander read her poem for the occasion. This, after I had been so excited about the one time, every four or eight years, when a poet has the nation's attention. :)

I'm interested in how you're weaving other voices and stories into your blog. Keep the fables and allegories coming!
